These natural materials are sustainable plant sources that are not destroyed during the manufacturing process. When fashioned into floorcovering products, these fibers have the characteristic of releasing or absorbing air borne water vapors. SISAL Fibers are extracted from the long spiny leaves of the Agave Salana plant, which is grown in Mexico, Brazil, China and other parts of Asia. The plants are gown by farmers, and are harvested yearly for the life of the plant, about 7 years. New replacement plants continue the harvesting cycle. The plants are native to these select regions of the globe, and require no fertilizers or pesticides for their abundant growth. Strong thin fibers are white in colour. The long lengths allow the firbers to be spun into yarns of various thicknesses.
