NATURAL COIR CARPET
Hot hot hot, is the only way to describe the popularity
of our selection of natural floorcoverings. Our Coir collection,
of carpets and area rugs, utilize renewable natural materials in
the yarn, and to a degree in the backing systems. These natural
materials are sustainable plant sources that are not destroyed during
the manufacturing process. When fashioned into floorcovering products,
these fibers have the characteristic of releasing or absorbing air
borne water vapors. This breathing action helps create healthy indoor
air humidity levels and prevents the buildup of static electricity.
The origins of weaving natural materials dates back beyond pre-recorded
history. Reeds, grasses and coconut fibers, woven into belts, clothes,
sacks and pouches have been found alongside the earliest discoveries
of Humankind.

COIR
Fibers are extracted for the inner husk of the coconut
fruit. The abundant coconut palm tree continues to produce the coir
fiber for many years. These native trees do not require fertilizer
or pesticides. The short fibers are coarse in texture and must be
spun into thick yarns. The natural colour is light brown, which
can be bleached. Irregularities in yarn thickness are common and
are considered an enhancing natural feature.
